We were given project to make, a video that is inspired by artist, response to it.
With a group of 5 people: Alicja, Zoe, Wendy, Jeffery and me we went to two art galleries to gain an inspiration.
TATE:
We saw a lot of interesting installations that caught our eye, most of them used objects to tell narrative regarding politics, historical events and society problems. Even though there was artist worth talking about we still wanted to look on something else to get inspiration.
WELLCOME COLLECTION:
There were quite a good amount of inspiring projects, mostly on the topic of health, covid, nature, also including the use of objects to express opinions.
But out of all artist’s projects we chose “Refugee Astronaut |||” by Yinka Shonibare CBE.
The title suggests that Astronaut was forced exile, an act of desperation rather than confident galactic exploration. Dressed in elaborative, colorful spacesuit, person carries various objects on their back that alludes to their past life and who they are. The whole sculpture is about forced exile, which led us to an idea of today’s global problems.

As environmental breakdown displaces populations, how many of us will become refugee? What if our planet will finally collapse and we will be fused to leave it, not for an exiting journey, but desperate search for a new home.
Initial storyboard:
Changed storyboard:
We changed storyboard to make narrative shorter and easier to make in a span of two weeks. We wanted to create an animation, and for amateurs that have never used Toon Boom before, we didn’t want to overcomplicate our first group project.
The story alludes to the worst future of people, when earth no longer can be called a home, and people got forced to seek for new place to live. Through objects we show what was the cause of exile – our own actions, pollution, neglecting our own planet.
We began project with ruff animation, then linear, finishing with colour and backgrounds. Music was added in the process fro non copyright music website.
