Point of View
Point of View is our Final Film for Introduction to Animation Unit. For this work we needed to create an animation about what bothers us, makes us feel something, what are we passionate about.
When thinking of what my heart cannot live without, I chose Art. Creating art, consuming artistic media, anything related to art is something I cannot live without. This inspired me to showcase process of creating art and the beauty that I see in it.
My decision was to draw in my usual style, using Procreate as a main program, then editing everything including music and additional effects in Premiere Pro.
I couldn’t imagine the scene well, so I went for music inspiration. I scrolled through royalty free music, non copyright music, and remembered song from a Kazakh band, that eventually disbanded. I checked if their music is copyrighted and it was not, so I decided to use one of their songs for my project called: “Soile”. Instrumental version of the song was used in the final video.
Based on the music, initial storyboard was created:

Based on the brief sketches I imagined each scene and how much time each of them should take to mach music beat, as well as be approximately 30 – 35 seconds.
Then I started creating sketch version of my animation, only for the most complicated scenes, some where created without ruff sketch, for example first 3 scenes of the video.
Example of the sketch version of animation:
After creating ruff sketch of every scene I put all of them with music to Premiere Pro where they were been placed in the final order and checked if any additions or changes should be done. I decided to add some more scenes that where not in the storyboards to add more dynamic to animation. I also thought to change final composition of the last scene to make it more interesting than just canvas facing viewers directly.
My film aimed for showing the beautiful process of art creation. Character featured in film is me when I was 17, dressed in school uniform, having strong passion towards art. During that time, my love for art started to truly shine and I made the final decision to pursue a career in animation. Of course, painting on canvas was not my passion, but in the film it is allegory to the passion of my heart, paint being my emotions (red watercolor), skills (purple), time (blue), dedication (yellow) – all used to create art.
After finishing line art in procreate, all animation parts where put together with music. In Premiere I added ink spreading animation in some scenes for animation not to be purely black and white. I didn’t have much time for colour, so this idea came in my mind. Ink animations where downloaded for free from deviant creator. Then, “Track Matte Key” video effect was used on watercolor layer to create colored ink reveal in the animation film.
